About the Sunshine Coast

School Water Polo Competition

The Sunshine Coast Schools Water Polo Competition began in 2002 introducing a water polo competition for schools on the Sunshine Coast to participate in. This very successful competition has grown each year with 84 teams participating in 2018. The water polo games are played each Monday evening at the Noosa Pool, Kawana Pool and Sunshine Coast Grammar Pool starting at the end of July and continuing in Term 4. The competition is divided into Junior Teams- Yrs 7,8 and younger; Intermediate Teams- Yrs 9 and 10; and Open Teams- Yrs 11,12 and younger. Many of these divisions are then separated into A and B groups of teams.

Water Polo is a great team sport and the oldest Olympic team sport. There is a pathway for many representative honours.  The best local U17 school water polo players are selected into the Sunshine Coast Regional Schoolgirls and Schoolboys teams to compete at the Qld School Sport Water Polo Championships held annually. Many of our local players have then been further selected to play in the Qld Schoolgirls and Schoolboys teams with some players further selected from the School Sport Australia Water Polo Championships into the Australian Teams. The Aussie teams have toured to England, South Africa, New Zealand, Singapore and the USA in different years.

A big thank you to the volunteer teachers who organise the Sunshine Coast Schools Water Polo competition and a big thank you to Sunshine Coast Water Polo for their support, advice and help with equipment.
